I had been waiting for winter time for this trip!
2 things on my list:
- World heritage site Shirakawago – famous for its historical village houses, best seen when they are covered in snow – the area is one of the areas with the heaviest snowfall in Japan.
- Soaking in an outdoor hotspring in the snow – contrast of hot and cold!
Shirakawago is commonly visited as a side trip from Kanazawa, the main city in the Hokuriku region in central Japan. It has its share of interesting places, including one of the three top Japanese gardens and a popular modern art museum.
