Hokkaido is the best place in Japan to escape the summer heat. This is our first trip there and with just over 3 days available, I went for the common summer favourites: Furano lavender fields and Biei countryside.
Asahikawa Airport would be the closest to these, but by the time I was finalising the itinerary, flights were already booked out. Instead, we chose to go to Shinchitose Airport near Sapporo, which is a much bigger airport and a lot more flights. That also gave us an opportunity for a brief visit in Sapporo city.
